Open Source Licenses & Data Source Notices
This page explains the open-source software, third-party data, and educational reference sources that may be used or referenced by ManZi.
Last updated: 17 May 2026
ManZi is independently developed. Some features may use, reference, or derive from open-source Chinese character, dictionary, or educational reference data. Where third-party data is used, ManZi aims to provide appropriate attribution, preserve applicable license notices, and clearly distinguish third-party data from ManZi’s own curriculum design, user interface, learning flow, game mechanics, Cantonese learning content, and app logic.
1. Make Me a Hanzi
Source
ManZi may use Chinese character stroke data derived from the Make Me a Hanzi project by Shaunak Kishore.
Project repository: https://github.com/skishore/makemeahanzi
Usage in ManZi
ManZi may use, modify, filter, convert, or reformat Make Me a Hanzi data for Chinese character stroke animation, writing practice, learning activities, and related app functionality.
Such use may include converting stroke vector data into app-friendly data formats, selecting a subset of characters, or adapting the data for display and animation within ManZi.
License notice
According to the Make Me a Hanzi license notice, its data is split into separate files because different source materials are subject to different licenses.
